James Alender

As President and CEO of Salin Bank, James Alender provides strategic and financial leadership for the entire banking organization. In addition to his home-office duties in Indianapolis, Alender regularly travels the entire state of Indiana to visit with customers and employees.

Prior to his appointment as Salin Bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Alender served as Chief Operating Officer for the bank. In that role, Alender focused his efforts on finance and accounting, retail banking, wealth management and operations. In addition, he supported Kokomo, Carroll and Cass County commercial banking customers.

Before joining Salin Bank, Alender served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Howard Regional Health System since 1997. In 2012, he assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Howard Regional Health, Inc., a new corporation formed as a result of Howard Regional’s affiliation with Community Health Network, Indianapolis.

The central Indiana native has more than 20 years of experience as a commercial bank executive. His banking career has included stints at Key Bank as the District President and at Society National Bank serving in the same capacity. He also served as a Senior Vice President for Ameritrust National Bank in Indianapolis and Union Bank and Trust in Kokomo.

Alender is a recipient of the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs Service Award and the Indiana University Kokomo Distinguished Service Award. He is actively involved with the Indiana University-Kokomo Advisory Board, Finance Committee of Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance, Kokomo Noon Rotary Club, American College Healthcare Executives, and the Kokomo Country Club.

Alender is a graduate of Krannert School of Industrial Management at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Marketing. He is a graduate of the School of Banking from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin.
