INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Salin Bank & Trust Company has recruited Alvin T. (Kit) Stolen III, former President and CEO of Union Federal Bank of Indianapolis, to be president and chief operating officer. Stolen brings to Salin more than 30 years of bank management experience, leadership development and human capital consulting.
"We could not be happier that Kit Stolen has joined our crew," says Salin Bank CEO William Salin II. "Our mission is to continuously strive to be more responsive and relevant to our clients’ needs. Kit has the successful banking experience, professional capabilities and personal warmth to be the mission leader of our great management team."
CEO Salin went on to add, "As an independent, community-oriented commercial bank competing with the ‘big box’ financial institutions, we feel we need to have the best-equipped, best-trained people reaching out to our clients. Kit’s experience and insights will be invaluable in enhancing internal systems and technologies, refining best-practices management techniques, and directing the strategic analysis of products and services."
While at Union Federal, a $2.4-billion asset institution with 42 branches and more than 600 employees in the Indianapolis area, Stolen oversaw all aspects of bank operations. He left Union Federal in January 2007 after completing the transition to Sky Bank (subsequently acquired by Huntington Bank) and joined Achievant, a human capital management company that helps businesses maximize the performance of their associates through software and leadership development consulting. While associated with Achievant, Stolen served for several months as interim CEO and interim CFO at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI). Stolen is currently chairman of the board at RHI and serves on the Finance Committee for the St. Vincent Health System. He formerly was a board member of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Zoo and Indiana Sports Corporation, along with other organizations.
Salin Bank, for the 25th year in a row, is enjoying profitable operations and an impressively stable lending base. The bank’s remarkable Tier 1 capital position of nearly 14% is well above the Federal Reserve’s "well-capitalized" criteria of 6%. The bank successfully bypassed the subprime meltdown by avoiding subprime lending altogether.
"The opportunity I’ve been looking for is precisely what Salin Bank offers," Stolen observes. "Salin’s family-ownership and rock solid capital has created a fortress in an otherwise turbulent banking market. It is the bank’s strength and stability over the long run that is so relevant and satisfying to our clients, communities and crewmembers. The Salin family’s steadfast dedication to keep the bank family-owned for the next generation is what sealed it for me. There is a strong sense at Salin that the way we do business truly can make a difference. The bank has the human and financial capital to continue to improve its position as a uniquely successful Indiana bank. I am honored to be asked and eager to contribute to this exciting environment."
