Stronger Security

To protect the privacy and the security of your personal information, we are improving the way you login to online banking by adding a new security feature.

Previously, you logged into online banking using your Login ID and Password. Now, you’ll also use an image, called a Authentication Image, and a Phrase. Your Authentication Image and Phrase help you to identify that you are on our Web site, not a fraudulent look-alike site. Here’s how it works:

  1. First, you'll enter your Login ID and click the Submit button.
  2. If we recognize the computer you are using, your Authentication Image and Phrase will be presented to you on the next page. Once you confirm your Authentication Image and Phrase, you'll know you can safely enter your Password. If you don't recognize your Authentication Image and Phrase don’t enter your Password.
  3. If we do not recognize the computer you are using, we will ask you a Challenge Question to confirm your identity and determine if you would like us to recognize this computer in the future. If you correctly answer your Challenge Question, you can proceed with login.

Two-factor Authentication: Our stronger login security combines two authentication “factors.” These factors include:

  • Something You Know (your Password)
  • Something You Have (your computer)

We use your computer as the second factor (something you have). This means that you do not have to install any new software or carry any new hardware. With our stronger login security, a secure two-factor authentication is instantly performed when you login. This allows us to confirm who you are and allow you to complete your login. If we cannot confirm your identity, we will ask you Challenge Questions to which only you will know the answers. These Challenge Questions are selected and answered by you when you enroll for stronger login security. If you answer the Challenge Questions correctly, your identity will be confirmed and you can proceed with login.

Some users may want to login from multiple computers. If this is the case, there is a very quick self-registration process that will help us to recognize your additional computers during future login. This registration process occurs the first time you login with the additional computer. We will ask you if you plan to login from the additional computer frequently and use your Challenge Questions to confirm your identity. If you answer the Challenge Questions successfully, your additional computer will be “registered” for future login. If you do not plan to frequently login from that additional computer, you should not register it. Two-factor authentication protects you against a broad range of fraud. Even if fraudsters steal your Password, they will not be able to successfully login without access to your registered computers.

Two-way Authentication: In addition to two-factor authentication, our stronger login security uses two-way authentication. While two-factor authentication confirms your identify to our Web site, two-way authentication protects you against fraud by proving our Web site’s identity to you. We do this by asking you to select a personalized Authentication Image (a secret image unique to you) and a personalized Phrase (shown with your Authentication Image). Once you have established your Authentication Image and Phrase, we will always show them to you when we ask for your Password. The personalized Authentication Image and Phrase are visual, so it's easy for you to notice and remember.
